Will lead efforts to bring holistic benefit solutions to more Americans
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Jan. 18, 2017 – Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) today announced that Teresa Hassara has been named head of the company’s Workplace Solutions business.
Hassara comes to MassMutual from TIAA, where she was President of the Institutional Retirement Business and a member of its Corporate Executive Management Team, managing more than half a trillion dollars in retirement plan assets.

Hassara, who will report directly to Fanning, succeeds Eric Wietsma in the role as head of Workplace Solutions. Mr. Wietsma will continue as part of Fanning’s leadership team as head of MassMutual’s Retirement Operations organization.
Headed a team of 1,000 for TIAA
As head of TIAA’s Institutional Retirement Business, Hassara led a team of more than 1,000 employees, transforming the business and building retirement readiness for 15,000 plan sponsors and four million individuals. In that role, her responsibilities included strategy, product development, relationship and services management, sales, participant consulting and advice.
Prior to joining TIAA she held a series of senior roles over a 17-year career with Fidelity Investments, including leadership positions within the retirement, investment and outsourcing businesses. Before joining Fidelity, she served at the former Bankers Trust Company and at First Pennsylvania Bank, N.A.
She is a member of the Board of Directors of Jobs for the Future, and she holds a B.A. from Vanderbilt University and earned her M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
