‘One for the record books,’ says Ness
November 14, 2019 — PORTLAND, Ore.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–During the 2019 Employee Giving Campaign, current and retired employees at Standard Insurance Company (The Standard) pledged $1.7 million benefiting more than 1,900 schools and nonprofit organizations. After a dollar-for-dollar match by The Standard and a second match by parent organization Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company, total contributions from the 2019 campaign will exceed $5.1 million.
These results broke all previous giving records for the campaign.
“This campaign is one for the record books,” said Greg Ness, chairman, president and chief executive officer of The Standard. “I’m so proud of our employees’ generosity. The Standard is delighted to add a double match to each and every gift an employee made to a school or nonprofit they’re passionate about.”
2,000 Employees Donate
More than 2,200 employees pledged support during the campaign, which also set a new record for participation. These contributions, which are in addition to The Standard’s corporate and foundation giving, will be distributed to nonprofit organizations during 2020.
Another unique tradition at The Standard is the Jeans Days program. It provides employees an added incentive by encouraging them to make a $100 charitable contribution in exchange for wearing jeans and sneakers to work five days a week for a year. Once again, The Standard and Meiji Yasuda matched these donations dollar-for-dollar. The Jeans Days program alone raised more than $600,000 for five nonprofit organizations: Transition Projects in Portland, Oregon; Bethany House Services in Cincinnati, Ohio; Lifting UP Westchester in White Plains, New York; Miriam’s House in Lynchburg, Virginia; and National Alliance to End Homelessness in Washington, D.C.
The following are among the many organizations receiving support from the Giving Campaign:
Oregon Food Bank
Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East
Oregon Humane Society
National Alliance to End Homelessness
Oregon Public Broadcasting
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon & SW Washington
Central City Concern
Oregon Health & Science University Foundation
