Participant-Focused RTI Surgical Earns Prestigious Signature Award

Plan Sponsor Council of America recognition is latest for client-focused OneAmerica®

INDIANAPOLIS (June 22, 2018) — Florida-based RTI Surgical, a publicly traded global surgical implant maker, was nationally honored for implementing an educational retirement plan which boosted participation by its employees.
RTI earned a First Place Signature Award in the ‘Increasing Participation/Small Company’ category from the Plan Sponsor Council of America (PSCA) at their 71st Annual National Conference. PSCA, which provides resources to help Fortune 500 and small businesses with their 401(k), 403(b) and profit sharing plans, recognized RTI for increasing participation rates among its 825-employee workforce.

RTI, a client of OneAmerica® since 2016, saw its participants boost their deferral contributions from an average of 4 percent to 6.71 percent and become more engaged with interactive educational resources.

Making It Relevant…

“Most employees understand they should be saving more for retirement, but making it relevant by using real examples, and continuously reminding employees helps,” said Josh Wichert, benefits and compensation manager, RTI Surgical. “With guidance from OneAmerica, we’ve created an annual communication plan to frequently keep retirement in the forefront. We’ve found chipping away with education and communications has continued to reach more employees.”

OneAmerica and RTI worked together to address challenges (such as making retirement messaging more consistent) and create a resource-rich customized retirement communications campaign with unique educational materials tailored specifically to the employee base, in addition to one-on-one employee meetings.

Participants are the real winners

Plan advisors are Charles “Buck” Blanton and Missy Blanton, with Jacksonville, Fla.-based ECM Group. Plan size increased 26%, from $49 million in 2016 to $62.8 million in 2017. “The real winners of this collaboration between RTI Surgical, ECM, and OneAmerica are the participants,” said ECM’s Blanton. “All employers should strive to chart a course for participants, educate them on the importance of saving for retirement, and continually remind them of being focused on their retirement goals.”

This was the second year in a row that a OneAmerica client has received the PSCA Signature Award, following Denver Art Museum’s 2017 win. PSCA is one of several accolades for OneAmerica; this year the company received a platinum and two golds through the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals’ Hermes Creative Awards, the creative industry’s preeminent third-party evaluator of creative work. OneAmerica also is celebrating five “Awards of Distinction” from the 24th annual Communicator Awards.
