LIMRA ‘Silver Bowl’ Recognition of social-media innovation an industry first

In 2013, LIMRA LOMA Social Media for Financial Services Conference launched its Social Media Silver Bowl Awards program, designed to acknowledge effective social media use by financial services companies. Recognizing originality and innovation on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube, this is the first social media awards program exclusively for the financial services industry, which has adopted social media more cautiously due to its unique compliance constraints.

Morgan Stanley Wealth Management had a double victory with a Silver Bowl Award for their innovative use of LinkedIn and was recognized as the “Best of the Best” among all the winning social media programs.

Lauren Boyman, director of digital strategy for Morgan Stanley said, “We chose LinkedIn to launch a compliant, yet engaging platform for our advisors to make professional connections and deliver valuable content to hundreds of thousands of current and prospective clients.”

As of August, more than 4,500 Morgan Stanley financial advisors had registered a LinkedIn account — and they continue to sign up at a pace of 300 a month. Collectively, they have shared more than 60,000 LinkedIn status updates with more than one million connections.
