Financial Planners to Meet With, Engage Federal Policymakers

DENVER – With federal policymakers and regulators discussing ways to protect American investors, few truly understand what financial planning is and why Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) professionals are uniquely positioned to help.

In an effort to enlighten those policymakers, the Financial Planning Association® (FPA®) will convene planners from across the country in Washington, D.C. for the 3rdAnnual FPA Advocacy Day on June 22, 2016.

A vital component of FPA’s overall advocacy strategy, FPA Advocacy Day will elevate the collective voice of financial planners during a day-long series of meetings with elected officials and leaders on financial services committees.

Discussions will center on those issues of great importance to the planning community and serve as a catalyst for positioning FPA as a force on national policy matters. And with FPA chapters conducting 17 state-level advocacy days this year, the national event will serve as a critical training opportunity for planners so they can have greater impact in state events.

Making your voice heard

“As the professional membership association for CFP® professionals and those who support the financial planning process, FPA is committed to helping our members make their voice heard on those policies and issues of importance to them and their clients,” says 2016 FPA President Pamela Sandy, CFP®.

“It’s easy for people to sit back and not feel as though they can have a say in matters taking place in Washington. But as we have seen over the past couple of years, policymakers are eager to hear from the financial planning community and learn about our positions.”

FPA Advocacy Day will elevate the collective voice of financial planners during a day-long series of meetings with elected officials and leaders on financial services committees.

Over the past two years, FPA members engaged in meetings with Representatives, Senators and leaders of the House Financial Services Committee and Senate Banking Committee and members of the FPA Board of Directors have met with key leaders of the White House Business Council and National Economic Council to discuss policy issues.

All participants will take part in a training program before the event to help them prepare for meetings with lawmakers.

“FPA’s advocacy efforts support the voice of our members…we are there in real time, in state capitals and on the Hill in Washington D.C., talking with influencers and advocating for the profession,” added Sandy.

Registration for the 3rd Annual FPA Advocacy Day is now open for all FPA members at OneFPA.org.
