Students to display their financial planning knowledge at the 2017 FPA Annual Conference

DENVER (September 19, 2017) –The Financial Planning Association® (FPA®), Ameriprise Financial and the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) are pleased to announce the 2017 Financial Planning Challenge finalists.
This competition, which is jointly sponsored by the three groups, is designed exclusively for college and university finance undergraduate degree programs registered with CFP Board, or related fields of study, through a three-stage event. The first two phases are modeled after CFP Board’s Financial Plan Development (Capstone) Course requirement.
The Financial Planning Challenge supports the next generation of financial planners by engaging students and program directors in the financial planning community; raising awareness of career opportunities; and encouraging learning and networking in the financial planning profession.
Eight Teams Chosen:
This year, the following eight teams are advancing to the final rounds at the 2017 FPA Annual Conference, to be held Oct. 2-4 in Nashville:
- California State University – Northridge
- Texas A&M University
- Texas Tech University
- University of Akron
- University of Georgia
- University of Illinois – Champaign-Urbana
- Utah Valley University
- Winthrop University

Teams advance in the challenge by competing in the following three phases:
- Written financial planning case study
- Case study presentation
- “How Do You Know?” Challenge, a game-show style financial planning knowledge contest
The final stages of the competition, which includes the case study presentation and game-show style knowledge contest, takes place at the FPA Annual Conference. The top three winning teams will receive a monetary scholarship for their school.
