Financial Planning Association Recognizes Widely Respected Industry Thought Leader with Association’s Top Award
DENVER (August 29, 2017) – The Financial Planning Association® (FPA®), the country’s largest membership association for Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) professionals and those who support the financial planning process, is pleased to announce Dr. Dave Yeske, CFP®, as the winner of the association’s top award – the 2017 P. Kemp Fain, Jr., Award.
Named for the late P. Kemp Fain, Jr., CFP®, this award is the pinnacle of recognition in the financial planning profession, honoring one exceptional individual who has made outstanding contributions to the financial planning profession. Fain was a pioneer in the financial planning profession, blazing trails in professional associations, the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) certification, and the profession at large.
In keeping with Fain’s example, the 2017 P. Kemp Fain, Jr., Award is bestowed upon an individual who has made significant contributions to the profession in the areas of service to society, academia, government and professional activities, and upholds FPA’s Core Values of competence, integrity, relationships and stewardship.
A preeminent leader
Held in high regard as one of the preeminent leaders in the financial planning profession, Dr. Yeske has directly contributed significant time and talent to building the body of professional knowledge in the profession. A practicing financial planner since 1990, Dr. Yeske founded the San Francisco Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (ICFP) and has held many leadership roles in FPA, including president of the FPA Board of Directors in 2003 and chair in 2004, chair of the FPA Political Action Committee (PAC) in 2005 and 2006, and chair of FPA’s Research Center Team and its Academic Advisory Council from 2007 to 2012. Presently, Dr. Yeske serves as Practitioner Editor of FPA’s award-winning Journal of Financial Planning. In addition to his many leadership roles, Dr. Yeske has been a prolific spokesperson for the profession at conferences and with the media.
With a passion for teaching and mentoring the next generation of financial planners, Dr. Yeske holds an appointment as Distinguished Adjunct Professor in Golden Gate University’s Ageno School of Business, where he is director of the University’s financial planning program. He also co-teaches the Capstone Cases in Financial Planning course and has been a long-time mentor and now a Dean of FPA’s Residency Program.
A recipient of the FPA Heart of Financial Planning Award in 2012, Dr. Yeske is Managing Director of Yeske Buie, a comprehensive financial planning firm with offices in Vienna, Va. and San Francisco, Calif. He holds a doctorate in finance from Golden Gate University, as well as an M.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Applied Economics from the University of San Francisco.

Dr. Yeske will be honored at the 2017 FPA Annual Conference, to be held Oct. 2-4 in Nashville.
